Rev. Francis Delaplain (Hay River) has been awarded a $7,500 grant to travel through the Mackenzie Delta with a purpose: to interview faithful elders whose powerful testimonies need to be preserved for the next generation. Because of the painful legacy of residential schools, the churches of the Mackenzie Delta are in the position of needing to re-connect with their communities and re-focus on the hope and healing that is uniquely found in Jesus Christ.

Elders in the delta remember when the communities were just forming, spending time in camps along the rivers, when fellow Gwich’in and Inuvialuit believers would come from camp to camp bringing the Good News. As the Church is re-planted and re-grows in the future, the testimonies of the local elders will be essential to bringing the Gospel to future generations!
