A 3-week visit to Aklavik
The Rev. Nick Kigeak, Arviat

I am currently the Diocesan Youth Coordinator for the Diocese of the Arctic. It is my role to equip young people to work as a team across the Diocese. In February of 2025, I visited Aklavik, NT with the Ven. Archdeacon Alexander Pryor and a fellow sister in Christ Heather Durkee for a Youth Conference with Rev. Victor Johnson and his wife Rev. Nalini Johnson. It was a pleasure to visit Aklavik to minister to both young people and to the Senior people as well. We did morning and afternoon sessions using the Rick Warren – Driven Ministries with the theme: “What on earth Am I here for?” and we had another theme following Valentine’s Day, “What is love?” I felt that God was working throughout the weekend in Aklavik, and I believe that God is always at work even when we don’t see it.
Every evening at 7:00pm we had Prayer and Praise, sharing testimonies, a Bible message, and healing prayer with the laying on of hands using the anointing oil. The weekend went great, and I’m looking forward to the Annual Youth Conference in the Mackenzie Delta. As long as I’m the Youth Coordinator for the Diocese, I am willing to travel to these places and continue with Youth Conferences in the different areas around the Diocese. Rev. Victor and his wife Rev. Nalini Johnson have been wonderful host, lots of food and being my first time eating Indian cuisine. I enjoyed every bit of my stay in Aklavik.
I stayed in Aklavik for 3 weeks, and during my whole 3 weeks, we had every evening 7:00pm prayer and praise, followed by some sharing testimonies, hearing the message, and healing prayer. The other weekend was to join in on the “Caring for the wounded heart” program with Robin Abrol who’s with on Eagles wings, and also another fellow Christian Tabea who helped Robin with facilitating the program. Great wonderful teaching and programs we have going on around the Arctic. I look forward to travelling across the Diocese, and I look forward to working with young people, to learn with them, to meet with them and to equip and to work as a team. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
