Anyone familiar with the Diocese will know that we have been living under the shadow of a large debt owing to General Synod. Due to errors in how unpaid assessments from parishes were reported to the national church, by 2021 the Diocese was being held responsible for $884,228 in apportionment for the years 2017-2021. Thanks be to God, the accounting errors were corrected in our books as part of an ongoing committment to “get our house in order”. This included writing off some old unpaid assessments from non-self-supporting parishes, granting an appropriately Gospel-like freedom so that they can move forward in faith rather than feel weighed down by the problems of the past. Thanks to hard work by Alex Mulooki (Finance Officer), Michelle Lucase (Finance Clerk) and Archdeacon Alexander Pryor, the General Synod reviewed and accepted our proposal to correct the error and reduce the amount owing by $221,057. God willing, this means we will finally be upto-date at year’s end, free from the long shadow of accrued debt to the national church. God be praised!
