Insurance, Inflation, Fixed Costs, and The Future

Bishop Alexander “thinking out loud” about a way forward. Long-time supporters of Arctic mission and ministry will have heard before about the challenges we face with securing property insurance. This is not a unique problem, but it is a uniquely difficult one. The sharp increases in church property insurance has been well-reported online and in the Anglican Journal over the past few years, leading many … Continue reading Insurance, Inflation, Fixed Costs, and The Future

Financial Update: Working Hard to Close the Gap

We began 2023 with a bugeted deficit of $727,636. Increasing costs of travel, insurance, and fuel have been significant over the past couple of years, coupled with the need for the diocese to become self-supporting, as the shrinking Anglican church in the South means that the Council of the North grants (which at one time provided enough for nearly all stipends for priests on mission … Continue reading Financial Update: Working Hard to Close the Gap

We’re trusting the God who Provides!

By Archdeacon Pryor Every year, each diocese that receives support from the Council of The North is asked to give an account to the “Grants Allocation Committee” of how the money was spent. This “GAC Report” (certainly an unfortunate-sounding name!) includes a number of questions as we show our stewardship of a shrinking amount of support from General Synod for Northern ministry. In the 70s … Continue reading We’re trusting the God who Provides!

General Synod forgives miscalculated debt

Anyone familiar with the Diocese will know that we have been living under the shadow of a large debt owing to General Synod. Due to errors in how unpaid assessments from parishes were reported to the national church, by 2021 the Diocese was being held responsible for $884,228 in apportionment for the years 2017-2021. Thanks be to God, the accounting errors were corrected in our … Continue reading General Synod forgives miscalculated debt
