Teens Encounter Christ

Have you heard of Teens Encounter Christ? TEC is a life-changing program where youth come together with young adults to learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus, trusting that they will truly have an encounter with Jesus over the course of the long-weekend retreat.

This program began in the ecumenical movement in the 1970s, and was once popular across Canada, though it seems fewer and fewer dioceses and churches are focusing on youth in this way. It’s a program that has seen success in the Arctic before the pandemic, and which we’re hoping will regain that momentum and spread to have a TEC gathering in each region every year!

The 3 days of the program are centered around the resurrection: “die day”, “rise day”, “go day”. We’ll fly youth from around the diocese to gather at the Roman Catholic cabins outside of Yellowknife to worship, learn, and experience the Gospel together. It takes a huge team to make this happen, as the whole weekend needs to be surrounded in prayer – besides the meals to be cooked, snacks to be prepared, and conversations to be had.

Plane tickets cost $1200-$2400 per participant, and we’re hoping to cover that cost for them.
