Ministry to the Parish of Yellowknife

By Heather Durkee, ministry volunteer “We just got here” is the first thing that greets me as I open the side door of the Anglican Church in Yellowknife. (That, along with a blast of -25C air!) I look up and into the smiling face of one with bright eyes and who is sufficiently bundled against the cold of this February morning. It’s 11:53am on a … Continue reading Ministry to the Parish of Yellowknife

Retirements and Moves around the Diocese

Bishop Joey Royal resigned his positions as Suffragan Bishop, Rector of Holy Trinity (Yellowknife) and Director of ATTS in October 2024. He took up a position in Ottawa with the Christian Embassy of Canada, and the move allows his son to attend a special school where he is making great progress working through his dyslexia. Pray for clergy families, as accepting a ministry posting in … Continue reading Retirements and Moves around the Diocese

A summer intern’s reflection on being called to ministry By Jackson LaRue, summer intern at St. John’s, Fort Smith (2024) As a seminarian enrolled at Nashotah House (Wisconsin, USA), the word “vocation” is one I encounter frequently. In my everyday world, this term means “the calling to be a priest,” My journey at seminary started out a little differently than most. I arrived without first … Continue reading The Opportunity – and Discovery – of a Lifetime

The miracle of one-on-one discipleship

By Catechist Whitney DeWare, Yellowknife I grew up believing that my present circumstances would inherently set the tone of the rest of my life. I read about miracles in the Bible, but in real life they seemed an ancient fantasy, irrelevant for my life today. As a child I attended Church, Sunday School and Youth Group weekly. In the summers I attended an overnight camp … Continue reading The miracle of one-on-one discipleship

My Summer in the North

Reflections of a Ministry Intern This summer I had the opportunity to work as a ministry intern at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yellowknife. Going in, I didn’t know what to expect in terms of both the work I would be doing and the environment in which I would be living. What I found was a welcoming and friendly church community that was supportive of … Continue reading My Summer in the North

A Divine Encounter

Our Partnership with ShareWord Global at work in Yellowknife Huddled with his wife at a street corner, John felt helpless and hopeless. His kids meant the world to him—they were his reason for living. He dreaded the thought of his two daughters being taken from him and his wife and put into foster care permanently. But it was exactly that fear which consumed his mind … Continue reading A Divine Encounter

The Church on the Town: The gift of Anglican parish ministry.

By the Rev. Francis Delaplain,Rector of St. Andrew’s , Hay River, NWT A vibrant, parish-minded Anglican church should be a unique space. One where all generations, peoples, languages, nations, and even denominations come together, united in their unwavering trust in Christ alone, and their desire to truly become a family: brothers and sisters of one Heavenly Father. Throughout the Diocese of the Arctic two things … Continue reading The Church on the Town: The gift of Anglican parish ministry.

Regional Deans’ meetings offer renewed hope for the future

Here we are in Advent 2022. When we were first elected as Suffragan Bishops in 2019, we came to a place of looking forward to what has to be done in the future. One that stood out was more training within Diocese. There are people who want to serve, but they haven’t been taught how. Continue reading Regional Deans’ meetings offer renewed hope for the future
