Retirements and Moves around the Diocese

Bishop Joey Royal resigned his positions as Suffragan Bishop, Rector of Holy Trinity (Yellowknife) and Director of ATTS in October 2024. He took up a position in Ottawa with the Christian Embassy of Canada, and the move allows his son to attend a special school where he is making great progress working through his dyslexia. Pray for clergy families, as accepting a ministry posting in the North often means fewer resources for school-children than they would have in the South.

Bishop David Parsons retired as Diocesan Bishop on December 31, along with Bishop Lucy Netser who retired as Suffragan Bishop on the same date. We offer our thanks to Bishop Annie Ittoshat who served as Diocesan Administrator during the interim period, and (then-) Archdeacon Alexander Pryor who continued as Executive Archdeacon and Episcopal Commissary during the interim period.

The Rev. Garth Eggenberger took up the position of (non-stipendiary) Deacon-in-Charge of Holy Trinity (Yellowknife) and Rev. Whitney DeWare, also ordained in October, works half-time in pastoral care and catechesis at Holy Trinity and halftime as ATTS instructor.

Deacons Martha & Nathaniel Kalluk, Carol Akeeagok, and Marlene Angnakak were ordained in December 2024. Revs. Martha and Nathaniel are re-opening the church in Resolute. Rev. Carol is providing pastoral care and leadership in Apex, NU. Rev. Marlene is on her way to Kuujjuaq, QC for the Summer, as she and her family discern leaving government work and coming into full-time ministry later this year.

Rev. Raquel Mack finished 9 years in Kangiqsualujjuaq this June, and we offer our thanks and wish her well in her future ministry wherever God leads.

As part of cleaning up our diocesan records as required by the provincial chancellor before our episcopal election in May, the following retired clergy were issued new licenses as Active Clergy in recognition of their ongoing service. Caleb Sangoya (Pond Inlet), Jean Simailak (Baker Lake), Leah May (Arctic Bay), Lucy Netser (Coral Harbour), Mabel Brown (Inuvik), Tom Martin (Kuujjuarapik).
