Retirements and Moves around the Diocese

Bishop Joey Royal resigned his positions as Suffragan Bishop, Rector of Holy Trinity (Yellowknife) and Director of ATTS in October 2024. He took up a position in Ottawa with the Christian Embassy of Canada, and the move allows his son to attend a special school where he is making great progress working through his dyslexia. Pray for clergy families, as accepting a ministry posting in … Continue reading Retirements and Moves around the Diocese

Old Things Made New: An ancient vision of Anglican Parish Ministry, alive and well in the Arctic

By Bishop Joey Royal, Director of ATTS Nearly 400 years ago, the English priest and poet George Herbert wrote a little book on pastoral ministry called The Country Parson. The wide-ranging book covers a lot of ground: in it we find guidance on how to study the scriptures, how to preach effectively, and how to catechize the young. We find exhortations on repairing buildings, training … Continue reading Old Things Made New: An ancient vision of Anglican Parish Ministry, alive and well in the Arctic

News and Moves around the Diocese

The Rev. Esau Tatatoapik has moved to the parish of Puvirnituq and takes up the role of Regional Dean for the Hudson Coast. The Rev. Help us Keep Training Northerners for Ministry!

Our diocesan theological college, Arthur Turner Training School (ATTS), has undergone a massive shift in the last six months. We’re still as committed as ever to the task of training northern people for northern ministry. What has changed is our model. We have shifted from a campus-based model, with our primary campus located in Iqaluit, to a hybrid model which combines distance education with twice-annual gatherings in hub communities. Mentoring Youth isn’t just for Sunday School Teachers

A Diocese is more than an organization. It is, in a very real sense, an organism, made up of parts that work together interdependently. In the scriptures, the Church is called (among other things) the body of Christ and the bride of Christ. It is, in other words, a living thing, indwelt by the Holy Spirit and empowered for holiness and mission, vitally connected with Christ who is both the head of the body and the groom indissolubly united to the Church, which is his body.
