The Bishop of The Arctic is pleased to announce that Mr. Nick Kigeak from Gjoa Haven has been appointed as the new Youth Coordinator for the Diocese. Nick has one course left to finish at ATTS in January, and then he will move to Yellowknife to take up his new position.
“This is very exciting” says Nick, whose task will be to serve as a resource person to support the growth of youth ministry across the diocese. “The day after I was elected bishop, someone called and asked me ‘what are you going to do about the suicides?’”, recalls Bishop Parsons. “I knew from the start that we needed to focus on young people, that we needed a youth coordinator who can come alongside other young people to support youth ministry across the Arctic”. Nick will be receiving professional training in suicide prevention, helping youth tell their stories instead of bottling up their struggles, and will be bringing people together to grow as disciples of Christ. “Everyone in this office is a servant – the office is only here to serve the congregations.” says Archdeacon Pryor. “Nick’s focus will be helping our youth ministries be all that they can be, and all for God’s glory.”
