Youth Conference packs the church in Arviat!

It’s standing room only at St. Francis Anglican Church in Arviat, NU on March 6th. The local Youth Committee arranged a 4-day “youth celebration” for young people to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“The Church was completely full! There were a lot who received Christ last night” wrote Nick Kigeak, the Diocesan Youth Coordinator on the second morning of the Youth Celebration in Arviat. “Now that they’re believers, I need to talk to Rev. Abraham (the local minister) and the youth committee about how to make them disciples”. This 4-day youth Celebration was planned by youth, for youth. People are taking time off of other commitments to spend the afternoons together in Bible Study and prayer, and then packing the church in the evenings with worship, testimonies, teaching, and opportunities for prayer and responding to the Gospel. “They’re really excited for an event like this” says Nick. Youth gatherings used to happen regularly, but haven’t for a number of years because of Covid. Nick says “People need hope. They need to know that they have a choice, that they can choose to walk on the path God wants them to be on. And it’s important for them to see that there are other young people making that choice too, because we need support from one another”. Our goal is for this sort of Celebration, and the lifechanging Teens Encounter Christ program will expand with a youth gathering in each regional hub every year!
