Send Help, Lord! Send Help.

By Bishop David Parsons This year as we began summer holidays, many needed prayer. Fires broke out at the Kátł’odeeche First Nation/Hay River NWT, Valleyview Alberta, in Val-D’Or Quebec, then fires broke out in Halifax. Later Halifax began to flood, and more fires broke out in Behchoko NWT and in BC. Following a 22,000 km road trip from Yellowknife to Newfoundland we returned to more … Continue reading Send Help, Lord! Send Help.

The Ask: Let’s not beat around the bush

God is doing an amazing thing. But that doesn’t come without challenges. We’ve gone forward in faith. We’re faithfully following where God leads. Even as the national support available from the Anglican Church of Canada continues to dwindle, and even as Council of General Synod predicts their funds for Northern Ministry coming to an end within the next four years, we continue to grow and … Continue reading The Ask: Let’s not beat around the bush

Fire Destroys St. John’s in Kinngait

Over the span of one weekend in January, fire ripped through two churches in Kinngait (formerly known as Cape Dorset), on the southern coast of Baffin Island. The RCMP continues it’s investigation into the pair of church fires. The simple wooden structure, built around 1954, has been declared a total loss. Kinngait is an Inuit community of about 1,400, where the Anglican Church has stood … Continue reading Fire Destroys St. John’s in Kinngait

The Winter is Over!

“Nobody likes to ask for money, but the Lord calls us to be bold!”, says Bishop David Parsons. There can be no doubt that God is doing something absolutely astonishing in The Arctic. This diocese covers over 3.4 million square kilometers, ministering, training, and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ in 49 communities, most dotting the bays and inlets of the Arctic coast. Every … Continue reading The Winter is Over!

Help us Keep Training Northerners for Ministry!

Our diocesan theological college, Arthur Turner Training School (ATTS), has undergone a massive shift in the last six months. We’re still as committed as ever to the task of training northern people for northern ministry. What has changed is our model. We have shifted from a campus-based model, with our primary campus located in Iqaluit, to a hybrid model which combines distance education with twice-annual gatherings in hub communities. Continue reading Help us Keep Training Northerners for Ministry!

St. John’s Legacy Foundation grants $15,775 for ATTS

“God will provide all that we need” is a daily refrain in the Synod Office of the Diocese of The Arctic. Big plans. Big challenges. The most spread-out diocese in the world, with most churches only accessible by planes travelling into small airports dotting the Arctic coast. “By any human reasoning, we shouldn’t be able to afford to do the work God gave us to … Continue reading St. John’s Legacy Foundation grants $15,775 for ATTS

Expectantly Waiting on Our God who Provides!

One focus of the Advent season that is easily overlooked is this: Almighty God provides all that we need. Advent is an “in-between” time. On the one hand, we look back to the miracle of Christmas, as the long-awaited Messiah and Saviour of the world came was born humbly, sharing our humanity. But the word “Advent” means “coming” or “appearing”. As we remember Jesus’ birth … Continue reading Expectantly Waiting on Our God who Provides!

Trusting God against a mentality of shortages and decline

ᐃᓄᒃᑎᑐᑦ? Click here. It’s easy to look at the Church in the modern day and find yourself depressed. The General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada is predicting that it will be ‘out of business’ by the year 2040. Congregations that were unclear about what it means to be the Body of Christ, or were unclear about their part in Christ’s mission in the world … Continue reading Trusting God against a mentality of shortages and decline
